“AY AY” by Dieddo in the KAC Vault Gallery

“Ay ay”: The simplest expression of emotions in Mexico, From when the heart misses and the eyes want to cry. This is a sample of those stuck feelings embodied in an explosion of colours.

Saturday, September 2nd to Saturday, September 23rd, 2023.

Mediums: Acrylic, mixed media and digital illustration.

Artist Reception: September 2nd, 2023

Artist Statement:

This exhibition revolves around the idea of missing. Missing pretty and missing with tears and snot. Missing the language and its colours. It is a trip through memory: mom’s songs, broken hearts, cumbia, punk and el barrio. It is a collection of works that take elements of Mexican popular culture hand in hand with mixed media that tell an intimate narrative through their fruits and their masks. Drawing inspiration from graphic styles from comic book styles to the engravings of José Guadalupe Posada, rescuing pre-hispanic imagery and other visual elements of Hispanic-Latino art.
