The Accessible Canada Act (https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/A-0.6/) defines disability as “any impairment, including a physical, mental, intellectual, cognitive, learning, communication or sensory impairment—or a functional limitation—whether permanent, temporary or episodic in nature, or evident or not, that, in interaction with a barrier, hinders a person’s full and equal participation in society.”
BOARD OVERVIEW
Term: (As of August 2016 AGM): up to two consecutive 2-year terms, August to July.
Composition: (As of August 2016 AGM): Up to 12 Directors, elected by members or appointed at AGM (August). Interim directors may be appointed by the Board on a year-round basis, per KAC Bylaws.
Executive Officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer
Directors at Large: Oversee specific areas of the organization via work on Board Committees (e.g. HR; Marketing & Membership; Fundraising) and program working groups (Art in the Park, Art Exposed, etc.). Each Director is actively involved in at least 1 Committee.
Board Meetings are chaired by the President, or VP in case of President’s absence.
Current Vacancies (February 2020): Up to 3 Director positions are open and may be filled by the existing Board at its discretion.
Collective Board Skills Required: Finance, fundraising, management, business skills, non-profit/charity governance, organizational development, legal, knowledge of the arts community, marketing, communications, member/stakeholder engagement, human resource management.

• The majority of our current directors are Kamloops-area artists, of all disciplines and from a variety of backgrounds.
• We strive to diversify the Board through a range of ethnicities, ages, genders, and backgrounds, accurately representing the population of Kamloops.
