Sean Campbell

Full Name: Sean Campbell

Medium: Author

How long have you been doing your art: I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. I grew up in Kamloops and still have the short story that got me into the Young Authors Conference here in town.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: I have a writing partner and when we first started writing together we found it difficult to stay motivated and focused. To combat our apathy, we decided there was a $100 fine to the other person if you missed a deadline. From that point on we never missed a deadline so we found out we were much cheaper than we were lazy. A valuable lesson.

What do you enjoy the most about your art: Writing gives you time to have an idea and craft it into the best form of itself.

If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why: I love talking to people about writing and the publishing industry. It’s tough and unfair and complex and rewarding and beautiful.

What do you think makes art important: Powerful art makes you feel powerful emotions and powerful emotions make you feel truly alive.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I’ve recently moved home to be closer to family and raise the littles. I became a member of the Kamloops Arts Council to meet some amazing people, collaborate on some projects, and support the arts in this wonderful town.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year: Sigh. Travel. Maybe. Someday.
