Shiela Dunn

Full Name: Shiela Dunn

Medium: Glass

How long have you been doing your art: I cut my first piece of glass 27 years ago.

What got you originally interested in the art you do: I wasn’t interested, I went with another person who wanted to take a stained glass class. I was instantly hooked and she hasn’t touched a piece of glass since.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: I’ve learned that I have endless patience to meticulously place tiny pieces of glass to get the result I see in my head.

What do you enjoy the most about your art: The possibilities for creation, from tiny fused earrings to huge stained glass windows are truly enjoyable.

What is your favorite joke/quote: So many ideas, so little time……

What is something most people don’t know about you: Most people probably know I love living in the country but they don’t know I never thought of myself as a “county girl” and thought we’d only live here for a year or two. Its been almost 30 years now.

If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why: I wouldn’t want to teach anyone a specific medium, I would try to help them find the medium that speaks to them.

What do you think makes art important: Art brings beauty to the world, soothes the soul and makes us all think and feel things we wouldn’t feel otherwise.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: The need to help support local artists.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): Fingers crossed, I’m looking forward to Christmas at the Courthouse.
