Brayden Conley

Full Name: Brayden Conley

Medium: Photography

How long have you been doing your art: I’ve been working on this project for 3 years, but I’ve had an interest in photography since I was a teenager.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: How important a creative outlet is for my mental health.

What do you enjoy the most about your art: The way my mind works when I go out to take photos. It’s a great escape from external stress.

What is your favorite joke/quote: “Mountains do not rise without earthquakes,” “Don’t sweat the petty stuff, and don’t pet the sweaty stuff,”
“Don’t take advice from people you don’t want to be like.”

What is something most people don’t know about you: I have yet to leave North America.

If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why: I would try to teach people whatever art form they are interested in. Art isn’t fun if you’re not interested in it, and shouldn’t be forced on people, but I believe there are a lot of people who would benefit from a creative outlet, as I have.

What do you think makes art important: It depends on the art, and the artist. In general, I’d say art is important because life and our spaces would be so incredibly boring without it.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I joined the Kamloops Arts Council to reach a few more people, and to hopefully put some art in public spaces around the city!

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): Continuing this photography project of mine, and perhaps installing a couple of living walls here in Kamloops.
