Dianne Carson

Full Name: Dianne Carson

Medium: Oil of choice and dabbles in Watercolour and even pastels.

How long have you been doing your art: I have been painting for 5 years. I started painting with Yvonne Reddick and then Debbie Lively. I took a couple of workshops with Alex Fong for my Watercolours and classes with Patricia Monteon of Galeria Monteon in Puerto Vallarta in Pastels.

What got you originally interested in the art you do: Retirement and finally had time to try different things that I had not previously been able to. I have always been “crafty” since my early years, but never tried drawing or painting so I was pretty excited to see that I could do that.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: That I “can do” things that I try, even though at first I thought I couldn’t lol!

What do you enjoy the most about your art: I love the feeling of accomplishment, that I did this 🙂

What is your favorite joke/quote: My friends always say “You really did that?”

What is something most people don’t know about you: My husband is my biggest fan!

If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, and why: I think it would be oils as I feel I can correct something and I am not always stuck with my error.

What do you think makes art important: It has to do with what makes people happy when they look at art, everybody’s style are different and it is so great to see! It also brings a sense of calm I think when either painting or viewing other paintings that you enjoy. Art makes a person look at little things differently like how the clouds look on different days, shapes or sizes or the shades of different items you are looking at. It makes you really “see” things differently.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I joined as I wanted to showcase some of my artwork plus also see and learn what other are painting.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): More practice en Plein Air, would love to become a better painter in that department, plus it is great to be outside!
