Christy Danielson

Full Name: Christy Danielson

Medium: Fabric (sewing)

How long have you been doing your art: I learned to sew as a child, and did do some sewing on and off over the years, nothing major ever. Then I started sewing again when I opened this business 2.5 years ago.

What got you originally interested in the art you do: I really loved making scrunchies in the 90’s when I was a teenager and wanted to bring back that nostalgic feeling. Started just before the pandemic hit. In the middle of all of that, I branched into handmade cotton masks and offered matching sets of scrunchies and masks which were a real hit.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: I feel that I have more patience overall now that I have taught myself to draft my own patterns, due to the nature of working through building a pattern from scratch. Also that I love fabric shopping and feel like I need to take it all home with me!

What do you enjoy the most about your art: I really love meeting customers face to face and helping them find the perfect item to help them in their life in some way. All of my products are created with a goal for the consumer in mind.

What is your favourite joke/quote: The day that you plant the seed is not the day that you eat the fruit.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I’m a member of the KAC because I want to feel connected to fellow artists as well as take advantage of the opportunities provided by KAC in the community.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): In 2022 I am most looking forward to the return of festivals and markets! This will be my first year at Art in the Park on Canada Day! As someone who prefers to sell in person vs online, the closure of markets for the pandemic has been a terrible blow to myself and many others that rely on live markets to sell to make a living. I have also just started offering wholesale pricing and I am excited to grow that part of my business in 2023.
