Paula Carter

Full Name: Paula Carter

Medium: Felt and pen, abstract art, etc

How long have you been doing your art: Since I was a kid, around 13, I started drawing. I just tuned 50 and got into art more seriously in my 20’s, I used to sell cards and prints.

What got you originally interested in the art you do: Originally, I was inspired by Robert Bateman, as a kid. Then, I started focusing on creating my self-published Children’s book, and other art, after my Mom passed away, a few years ago. I am inspired by nature and my surroundings especially here in Kamloops now.

What is something you have learned about yourself through your art: Art is very therapeutic for me… I feel inspired by even the smallest details I see around me, whether in nature or anywhere really, as we can find beauty and art all around us if we are open to it.

What do you enjoy the most about your art: I think my style is unique and I most enjoy the bright, vibrant colours and original characters that I create.

If you could teach everyone one art medium or method, what would it be, why: I would love to teach people how to express their own unique style with art. Not everything can be taught aside from technique, everyone has their own way of expressing themselves and I would encourage that .

What do you think makes art important: Art is important because it touches people’s lives in ways we may never know ..sometimes is uplifting, cathartic or entertaining. It’s so personal and unique to how it affects one’s life and it also brings people together too.

Why are you a member of the Kamloops Arts Council: I am a member because I want to become more involved with the Kamloops art community and I love all of the different events.

What are you looking forward to the most in this upcoming year (A special show or project you’re working on): Working on the 2nd and 3rd books of my trilogy. My first self-published children’s book is called ‘MAGICAL NATURE FRIENDS’ and is a book about the magic of nature and believing in oneself.
