Each month the Kamloops Arts Council profiles a different member or donor, so that you can get to know the diverse and talented community that makes up the KAC. This month we feature Jan Pruneau.
How long have you been involved with the Kamloops Arts Council?
I have just recently rejoined with the KAC.
Why did you get involved?
Being involved as a member has given my business a lot of opportunity for exposure to the public such as having my work placed in their gallery for a 6 week period. I have also been part of Art In The Park, met other artists along the way, and have great support with the KAC for upcoming events and promotions.
Tell us about your artwork:
I am a self taught artist for 7 years now, and paint with Acrylics on canvas, glass, wood, slate, and with my latest projects painting mannequins and busts. Most of my paintings are scenic, and abstract using vibrant colors which are more stunning once I apply Epoxy coating on them. My work has been sold across Canada, the U.S.A. and locally from my home.
What are you looking forward to this upcoming year? A special show or project you’re working on?
This upcoming year, I look forward to applying to take part in Art In The Park, more businesses promoting my work, taking in students in my home to teach different techniques of painting, more shows in my home especially during the Christmas season, and also getting more involved with KAC.
What would you say to someone who’s considering becoming a member with the Kamloops Arts Council?
Kamloops has so many talented and gifted artists out there and I believe KAC is the best place to make a start in a new career. The KAC has a lot to offer with that, and can lead you to other sources to promote your work.
I have just recently brought in a friend from Victoria that has moved to Kamloops and encouraged him to become a member because of the support KAC offers and the opportunities of meeting all the right people to make a business successful. The KAC is able to provide you with answers to your questions you may have, and the right contacts you need to expand.
