“Progression”

From the Artist: “All of the pieces were made during my time at TRU. Each piece taught me different techniques, my preferences, and helped me become an artist. I tend to attempt something different in each piece, learning different skills to help me with the next painting or drawing”
Fausto is a recent graduate of TRU’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Program. His preferred medium is drawing, with a focus on animals and motion.

“Dog Dayz” (extended!)

This body of work was born from a very simple exercise: Minnumato, Sofía-Grace, and Dieddo reinterpreted the same three dog poses through their own visual languages. From there, the exhibition expanded in different directions,
bringing together characters, creatures, scenes, and other ideas that are a bit more difficult to explain, but hopefully easy to enjoy.
If the works have anything in common, it’s perhaps a certain inclination towards humour, exaggeration, and the pleasure of not taking themselves too seriously. Some pieces seem to converse with each other, while others seem a little out of place, but it is that contrast that allows these stories to coexist in all sorts of ways. Dog Days are often described as those boiling summer days when time seems to behave strangely. We thought it was a good name for an exhibition that invites us to laugh or reflect a little on the chaos that inhabits our daily lives. Among so many things that demand our attention in that daily life, Dog Days proposes something less ambitious: to stop for a few minutes, laugh a little, and celebrate that not everything needs an explanation. Perhaps the common characteristic of all these works is that none of them is in a hurry to be coherent.
Minnumato, Sofía-Grace, and Dieddo met through working in the Kamloops art community. After a last-minute spot for an exhibition opened, they joined forces, leaning into each other’s strengths and ideas to present a fun, experimental exhibition for viewers to enjoy while taking a break from the long “Dog Days” of the summer.
